Take Your Dog To Work Day

Heads up, dog lovers! June 21st is Take Your Dog to Work Day, a chance to share the office with our furry best friends and see how they can brighten up even the most demanding days. But before you leash up and head out, let's ensure your pup has a smooth transition to the office environment.

Planning for Success:

  • Office check: Double-check if your company celebrates this day and has any guidelines for canine visitors.

  • Is your pup office-ready? Make sure they're up-to-date on vaccinations, well-behaved, and comfortable around new people and places. Brush up on basic commands like "sit" and "stay" for a smoother day.

  • Dress to impress. or more like, groom to impress. This means a good bath, a thorough brushing, and maybe even a quick trip to the groomer to ensure they're looking their best and, more importantly, smelling fresh.

  • Pack smart: Bring food, water, waste bags, a comfy bed, and chew toys to keep your dog occupied and content.

  • Temperament matters: Not all pups thrive in busy environments. If they're easily overwhelmed, consider leaving them at home for their comfort.

Sharing the Workspace Responsibly:

  • Respect your team: Ask permission before letting your dog approach others, and be mindful of anyone with allergies or anxieties. Introduce your dog to coworkers gradually, especially if there are other dogs in the office.

  • Keep your pup on a leash: This is best for everyone's safety and comfort, especially in unfamiliar spaces.

  • Be a responsible pet owner: Pick up after your dog promptly and leave no messes behind.

  • Plan for breaks: Dogs need breaks just like we do, perhaps even more frequently. Plan to take a few short walks throughout the day to let your dog stretch their legs and take care of business. This not only helps your dog stay comfortable but also gives you a nice break from work.

Use this day as a chance to educate your coworkers about pet ownership, the importance of adoption, and how dogs can positively impact our lives. It's a great way to spread awareness and maybe even inspire someone to consider adding a four-legged friend to their family.

And for those of us who work from home, Take Your Dog to Work Day can still be fun with some creativity. While our dogs are already familiar with our home office setup, this special day is an excellent opportunity to celebrate their constant companionship in a more intentional way.

If you haven't already, set up a dedicated space for your dog in your home office. A comfy bed, some of their favorite toys, and a water bowl can make them feel like they're part of your workday.

Take advantage of the flexibility of working from home by planning special breaks with your dog.

And if you’re working with remote teams, plan ahead to have a dedicated video call when you can all take turns and introduce your pups, bring them on the call, exchange fun stories about your furry coworkers and any tips and trick for those considering to adopt. Or if you’re in the same city, maybe you meet at a dog park after work and make it a real party!

So, are you planning to take your dog to work on June 21st? How do you anticipate making the day special for both of you? Share your plans and any tips you might have for a successful Take Your Dog to Work Day.
